Broadcast Engineers look into the future of the Digital World A very informative and comprehensive seminar on Digital Audio was recently held and sponsored by Broadcast World Phils. Systems, Inc. at the Max Restaurant, Jupiter St., Bel-Air, Makati city for Broadcast Engineers and Technicians of Radio and Television stations throughout the Philippines. Digital Audio in Broadcast Technology has become dominant, better performing, less expensive and more reliable in audio processing than analog systems, Broadcast World’s main objective in this seminar was to provide Radio and Television stations with the tools that will improve their efficiency to take better advantage of the equipment they have on hand as well as to make informed decisions on new equipment. Broadcast Electronics Audiovault & VaultExpress is almost every network It is the most dominant digital studio in the Philippine Broadcast. Speakers/lecturers during the occasion were Ms. Mary Ann Seidler, International Director of Sales for Telos Systems/Omnia, USA, who spoke mainly on the dynamics of Digital Processing like the Omnia 6, the elimination of distortion, the effect on both systems, peak control performance and subjective sound quality, and Mr. Christopher Buckland, Studio Systems Division of Broadcast Electronics Inc. USA, who spoke on various topics in the AudioVAULT University such as the server-side applications, the AudioVAULT program, AVAir and AVAir utilities, and the AV Scheduler. Both speakers allowed the Broadcast Engineers and Technicians ample time for hands-on demonstrations. As a gratification for their efforts, ms. Mary Ann Seidler and Mr. Chris Buckland were given Plaques of Appreciation, awarded by Ms. Desy Kelly and Mr. Bart D. Bañez, respectively. Highlighting the occasion was the speech of the guest speaker in the person of Mr. Joselito G. Yabut, Chairman of the Kapisanan Ng Mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas, who was also awarded a Plaque of Appreciation by Ms. Miriam Victoria B. Pineda. The affair was a howling success where everyone who attended it spent an expanded adventure into the Digital Audio World, ready to buckle down to work in his respective areas, happier and wiser. Broadcast Electronics Hosts AudioVAULT University in Singapore: June 23-26th, 2001 For the second year, BE will offer its’ successful AudioVAULT University course in Singapore immediately following the Broadcast Asia Exhibition. The Studio Products Service Group provides our users with service and support that is unmatched in the industry. The department is responsible for developing curriculum, system documentation, help files and implementing AudioVAULT training programs for customers, representatives, sales personnel and customer service engineers in training. Over the years BE has developed materials, applicable to users of all levels, which were consolidated into six modular courses (or programs), which allow AudioVAULT users to maximize their investment. They are offering these courses to BE customers in what they are calling AudioVAULT University. Within this classroom environment you will be trained on all of the key concepts related to the AudioVAULT suite of software. Classes combine lectures, demonstrations and hands-on exercises to help you learn basic functions and advanced features of the products. In addition to classroom instruction, AudioVAULT University provides participants with self-paced tutorials and easy-to-follow study guides. The AVUniversity curriculum is designed to provide users with a well-balanced overview of system operation and maintenance procedures – and is intended so as to “train the trainer” – so your participation will allow a greater number of operators and engineers to be trained. The first day covers Operator Training while the second session covers Engineering and Systems Administrator Training and runs the last three days. The Operator Training course looks at the major AudioVAULT applications and how they are used, including several hands-on exercises. The session also includes a discussion of system architecture and basic troubleshooting. The Engineering/Systems Administrator Training course takes an in-depth look at system architecture and the configuration of AudioVAULT components. Other topics include remote control programming, writing AVSat and AVNet playlists, troubleshooting and system design considerations. The sessions will focus primarily on the new AudioVAULT Express hardware platform, but materials will be provided to assist users who may have the AV-100 hardware as well. This session will be an advanced course intended for experienced users, system administrators, engineers, and other technical staff. The course covers the technical aspects of the AudioVAULT hardware, file system, remote control capability, INI programming, troubleshooting and maintenance, and other advanced topics. Knowledge of the Windows operating system and basic knowledge of the AudioVAULT system is required. News Bytes from Telos and Omnia Now that the NAB is over and everyone has (hopefully) recovered, we’ve got some great news to share. As you know, two major trade magazines, Radio World and BE Radio, present awards at the Spring NAB products they feel are worthy of recognition, either for advances in technology or advances in the workplace. We are pleased to announce that Telos and Omnia were presented with no less than four awards! Here’s the breakdown: * The Telos SmartSurface studio controller received TWO awards – a Cool Stuff award from Radio World and a Pick Hit from BE Radio… a rare occurrence! * Our Omnia-6fm digital audio processor won a Cool Stuff award from Radio World for its amazingly loud, clean sound and pioneering use of 96kHz/24-bit processing, a first in audio processing for broadcast. * The new Telos Zephyr Xstream won a BE Radio Pick Hit for its introduction of Fraunhofer’s revolutionary MPEG4 AAC-LD coding, which enables broadcasters to transmit and receive Layer-3 quality audio over ISDN with a drastically reduced transmission time of only 55ms, and for its ability to simultaneously stream audio over IP connections. Please contact our Marketing and Sales Departments for more information. Omnia/Telos Products now in the Philippines Broadcast World Phils. is pleased to announce, that, as distributor of Omnia/Telos Systems products for the Philippines several Radio and Television Stations are now using the Omnia Digital Audio Processor for its broadcast studio system. These stations are: Radio Mindanao Network making use of Omnia-6fm;in Manila ; DXSJ in Surigao City – Omnia 3fm; Rajah Broadcasting Network – Omnia 3AM in Manila; and DXJR in Cagayan de Oro City – Omnia 3AM and Omnia TV. Worth mentioning, the Omnia 6fm digital audio processor won the Radio Pick Hit at the NAB for its amazingly loud, clean sound, a first in audio processing for broadcast. Happiness on the Horizon Q: Why do I want an Omnia-6fm? A: Louder – Smoother – Cleaner While it is true that Omnia is the processor that has won the major markets, we knew that we could make improvements. Our goals were to give you, the user, more of what Omnia is known for. Market dominating loudness – what you’ve asked for to win your own war! Incredibly smooth sound and the cleanest highs that we have ever offered. Three critical factors have converged for us to be able to offer this next step. Feedback from users about our original Omnia.fm advances in DSP technology and never ending development in the labs of Telos and Omnia. Our research engineers used many of the concepts and capabilities that we discovered during our innovative work with DAB, webcasting, and Swedish Radio developing the world’s first multiband Look-Ahead Limiter system. By utilizing newly developed concepts for dynamics control, we were able to give you power and capabilities that are unique and significant, especially when you consider that Omnia-6 has the lowest latency of any DSP based processor.
